Usage

When to use Standard vs Content Search

Use Standard Search when results can be isolated

The standard search is the most commonly used option. The results from a standard search are extracted from the content it performed the query on. Typically, this is used when only the search results need to be displayed.

Do
Standard search results are the articles filtered from the search words.

A standard search is commonly used to provide a list of results from the query. In this example, a list of articles filtered out from a larger library is the result of the search term.

Don't
Content search results with articles filtered and the searched word bubbled for each article.

Using a content search for a very large collection of articles does not bubble up useful information at a glance. In this case, the search results also do not need to be preserved inline.

Use content search when results need to be inline

A content search highlights the results within the content. Typically, a content search is used when the context of the content needs to be preserved when a search is performed.

Do
A long transcript using content search to identify the word 'text'.

A content search for a specific word in a transcript is appropriate, as the search results need to be viewed within the original context of the searched content.

Don't
Standard search for a transcript brining up the words 'text' alone.

Using a standard search for a transcript would provide results that lack context, thereby lacking usefulness.
